About Novosibirsk State Medical University
Novosibirsk State Medical University (NSMU) was established in 1935 as the Novosibirsk Medical Institute, formed through the merger of the Novosibirsk Medical Institute of Postgraduate and Tomsk Medical Institute, with just one faculty and 117 students in its first academic year. Located in Novosibirsk — the largest city in Siberia and Russia's third-largest city — NSMU operates under the Russian Ministry of Health and is one of the oldest government medical universities in the country.
In 1999, the institute was renamed the Novosibirsk State Medical Academy, and on November 10, 2005, it gained full University status, becoming Novosibirsk State Medical University. Today, NSMU has over 1,700 employees, 8 faculties, 76 departments, 300 residents, and 600 interns, and has trained over 32,000 graduates to date. More than 80% of the academic staff hold advanced professorships and doctoral degrees.
