About Grigol Robakidze University

Grigol Robakidze University was founded in 1992 — originally known as "Alma Mater" — and was renamed in 1995 by resolution of the Academic Council in honour of the eminent Georgian writer and philosopher Grigol Robakidze. As early as 1995, GRUNI was among only five higher education institutions in Georgia to be included in the UNESCO inventory of the world's higher education institutions. In 2001, the university signed an agreement with the American Institute in Prague (Czech Republic), enabling graduates of its economics programme to pursue PhD and MBA studies in Prague.

Today, GRUNI ranks among Georgia's top private medical universities and is deeply committed to fostering civic engagement, research, and international collaboration. It features several research centres including the Centre for Social Sciences, the Centre for Economic Research, and the Institute of Law and Public Policy, as well as a unique Crime Research Centre equipped with FBI tools. GRUNI's Advanced Simulation Lab is considered one of the largest and most advanced medical simulation facilities in Georgia. The university joined the Bologna Process in 2005, ensuring its academic credits are internationally transferable across European institutions via the ECTS system.
