About Zagazig University

Zagazig University was established on 14 April 1974, by presidential decree, originally as a branch of Ain Shams University founded in 1970. It became the seventh independent university in Egypt, initially operating with six faculties. Today, it has grown into one of the country's most prominent governmental universities, comprising over 24 faculties and scientific institutes spanning virtually all branches of human knowledge, along with more than 600 scientific departments.

The university employs approximately 5,000 faculty members holding doctoral degrees and around 2,500 teaching assistants and instructors. With a student body exceeding 160,000 students — including over 3,300 international students — and roughly 7,200 academic staff, ZU is a truly large-scale institution. The university's emblem features the image of Ahmed Urabi, a symbol of Egyptian national pride. The Archaeological Museum on campus also exhibits significant discoveries from the nearby ancient sites of Bubastis (Tell Basta) and Kufur Nigm.
