About Tanta University Faculty of Medicine

Tanta University was originally founded in 1962 as a branch of the University of Alexandria, with the Faculty of Medicine as its sole faculty at inception. The institution steadily expanded and in 1972 became an independent university under the name "University of the Middle Delta," before officially being renamed Tanta University in 1973. Today it is one of Egypt's foremost governmental universities, directly supervised by the Ministry of Higher Education.

The university is home to faculties spanning Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Commerce, Arts, Law, Education, and more — including a dedicated Cancer Research Institute. With over 132,000 students (89% undergraduates, 11% postgraduates) drawn from across Egypt and internationally, the university is supported by the expansive Tanta University Hospital, a primary referral centre for the Gharbia Governorate that serves thousands of patients daily and provides rich hands-on clinical training for medical students.
