About Mansoura University
The history of the establishment of Mansoura University can be dated back to 1962, whereby the Faculty of Medicine was established as a branch of Cairo University through Presidential Decree No. 1647. Presidential Decree Article 49 of the constitution established Mansoura University in 1972. It was later renamed in 1973 as Mansoura University, becoming the sixth university to be established in Egypt.
The university's main campus covers about 300 acres located in the heart of the Mansoura city, which is about 120 km north-west of Cairo. The campus consists of 15 on-site faculties and three student accommodation blocks, a student hospital, restaurants, a cafeteria, and a modern sport complex. There are four faculties that operate off-campus. The most notable thing about Mansoura University is its healthcare facilities, where nine hospitals and medical centers cater to the needs of the students and locals, and that includes a children's hospital, Medical Experimental Research Center (MERC), and Urology and Nephrology Center – the biggest one of its kind in Africa, founded by famous Egyptian urologist Prof. Mohamed Ghoneim.
