About Alexandria University
Alexandria University was founded in 1938 as a component of Fouad University (which later became Cairo University). The university gained its autonomy in 1942 as a government university by virtue of Royal Decree No. 32 dated August 2, 1942, named King Farouk I University. After the Egyptian revolution of 1952, the university was re-named as Alexandria University. Alexandria University is the third university of Egypt.
Currently, there are 21 faculties and 3 research institutes at the University of Alexandria, providing education to over 120,000 students both domestically and internationally. One of the Faculties, namely the Faculty of Medicine, which was founded in 1942, is the oldest and most renowned Faculty of Medicine in Egypt and the Middle East.
