All About MBBS at Nukus Branch of Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute

The Nukus Branch of Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute (TashPMI) is a leading government medical university in Uzbekistan, offering a globally recognised MBBS program with a strong focus on pediatric medicine. Established in 1990, also known as Karakalpak Medical Institute, it is recognised by WHO and NMC (India) and is a top choice for Indian and South Asian students seeking quality, affordable medical education in Central Asia.

About the Institute

The Nukus Branch of the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute was established in 1990 as a branch of the prestigious Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute (founded in 1972). Located in Nukus City — the capital of the Republic of Karakalpakstan — the institute is also known as Karakalpak Medical Institute (KMI). It was formally elevated by Presidential Decree in 2020, becoming a pivotal medical training centre for the Aral Sea region and one of Uzbekistan's leading higher educational institutions.

The institute's founding objective was to address a critical lack of paediatricians and a high infant mortality rate in the region. Today, it hosts over 300 Indian students and maintains partnerships with more than 20 hospitals and medical institutions in Nukus and beyond, providing a robust clinical training environment across all major medical disciplines from Year 2 onwards.
