About University of Tuzla

The University of Tuzla traces its roots to 1958, when the first higher educational institution in Tuzla — the Higher Mining and Technical School — was established at the request of the mines of Bosnia and Herzegovina, enrolling 158 students. In 1959, the Faculty of Technology was established as a dislocated faculty of the University of Sarajevo. The first doctoral dissertation was defended there in 1962, and the Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1976 — the same year the independent University of Tuzla was formally established.

Today, UNTZ comprises 12 faculties and one Academy of Dramatic Arts, offering 123 study programs across undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, covering biomedical, technical, humanistic, and social sciences. The university serves a community of over 11,000 students alongside approximately 1,000 professors, teaching assistants, and staff, making it the largest and oldest higher education institution in Northeast Bosnia. Over 40,000 students have graduated, with 2,726 master's theses and 777 doctorates defended.
